Academic Outcomes

Kairos aims for all all students to achieve their QCE. To assist our students to reach this goal, Kairos

  • establishes small class groups, allowing consistent and close relationships with teaching staff.
  • provides Teacher Aides to support classroom engagement and individual learning. Tutoring before and after school is available on a fee-free basis to those who are below the literacy and numeracy levels required to obtain their QCE.
  • offers the opportunity to acquire more than the required 20 QCE points to ensure success.
  • offers subjects that are engaging and relevant to the educational, social, and emotional development of young people.
  • implements consistent pedagogy across all classes.
  • establishes and maintains a safe learning environment through boundaries and high expectations.

Curriculum

Kairos provides the opportunity to graduate Year 12 and achieve a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). In order to attain a QCE, students need to accumulate 20 QCE points by the end of Year 12. Across Years 10 to 12 Kairos offers the opportunity for students to accumulate over 30 QCE points. This provides students with a buffer to adapt to these occurrences.

Our Year 11 and 12 students study the following Queensland Curriculum Assessment Authority (QCAA) Registered Subjects:

  • Essential English;
  • Essential Mathematics;
  • Social and Community Studies;
  • Religion and Ethics;
  • Sport and Recreation (elective);
  • Arts in Practice (elective);
  • Short Course Career Education

Our Year 10 students study a combination of Short Courses, QCAA Applied subjects, Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority subjects and a VET course consisting of:

  • QCAA Short Course Literacy;
  • QCAA Short Course Numeracy;
  • QCAA Applied Science in Practice;
  • ACARA Business and Economics;
  • ACARA Digital Technologies;
  • ACARA Arts (elective);
  • ACARA HPE (elective);
  • Certificate II in Volunteering

Extra Curricular

With the dedicated support of staff, Kairos Community College offers a broad range of educational, social, and high interest programs and activities for our young people. These vary between campuses, and may include Dungeons and Dragons, Functional Fitness, Artistic Fencing, 3D Design and Printing, Sporting Masterclasses, DJ Skills, Cooking, Meditation and Mindfulness.

All these opportunities form part of our extra-curricular program offering our young people the opportunity to engage, participate, build confidence, and learn new skills. These programs may run before, during or after school hours.

Pathways

Students also have the opportunity to complete VET (Vocational Education and Training) certificates externally or engage in the Headstart Program at University of the Sunshine Coast. These are additional subjects which students can complete to individualise and extend their learning at Kairos.
