On Tuesday 22 April, a group of determined Kairos Community College Deception Bay students laced up their boots and set off on the Mount Tibrogargan circuit, kicking off their training for the upcoming Kokoda Challenge.
The hike offered more than just scenic views—it was a true test of teamwork, perseverance, and physical endurance. Under the warmth of the Sunshine Coast sun and the shadow of the Glass House Mountains, our students pushed themselves to new limits.
The Kokoda Challenge is widely known as one of Australia’s most gruelling endurance events, designed to honour the spirit of the Kokoda Track. It challenges participants to embody courage, endurance, mateship, and sacrifice—values that resonate deeply with our college community.

This first training trek was an opportunity for students to step out of their comfort zones and step up for something bigger than themselves. Their effort, grit, and camaraderie on the trail were nothing short of inspiring.
We’re so proud of our students and the commitment they’re showing as they prepare for this incredible journey. Each training session is a chance to grow stronger—physically and mentally—and we look forward to cheering them on every step of the way.
Stay tuned as we continue to follow their progress on the path to Kokoda!
